For our day of tramping we headed out of Nelson but had to cross the Tasman Mts both ways to and from our home base. The roads were narrow in sections, windy with switchbacks and hair-pin curves, down to one lane bridges and wash-outs in sections. The drops were steep but we were comforted by the strong rails along the edges and the views were spectacular!
